I started school this week and it’s much different from what I expected; lots of busy work and group work. I’m the only person in my classes who takes notes on the computer. Now if only I could get internet access in the building, I’d be set. I start my reference desk job tomorrow; that should be fun. I have met a few of my classmates and they are really nice, but then I guess most librarians are.
There’s news of a possible transit strike here after Labor Day. Apparently, the drivers’ contract expired earlier in the summer and the negotiations aren’t going well. I’m not sure how I’ll get to work downtown if the strike happens, so I’m hoping the Port Authority makes a fair deal with the drivers this week. School’s not a problem, it’s within walking distance, so is the reference desk job, but downtown is way too far to walk.
In more pleasant news, last week a call to Travel Buddy prompted her to suggest making “paper art” to curtail my boredom; so I started taking travel brochures, junk mail, and magazines to create collages. This has been a great adventure. I don’t think of myself as an artist (Travel Buddy is an artist) and it’s neat to see that I can put something together that’s pleasing to the eye and thought provoking. The pictures I’m including are of the collage I made last night. It’s taped to a letter-sized folder and I titled it “Mail Call.”
It’s made entirely from the junk mail I received yesterday. I used less than 1% of the junk mail that came. It’s amazing how much junk mail we get!
Parting Shot – for mom, here’s a picture of my bathroom. The tile in there is awesome!!
