PA Backroads

Today I drove around the back roads of Southwestern Pennsylvania.  Here’s the route I took –

– choosen at random, knowing I wanted to go south and west, then north, then east and south to get back to Pittsburgh.  No pictures, as I was driving, but here’s the highlights:

  • Saw an Amish buggy
  • A big, fuzzy bumble bee flew in the car window, hit me in head, landed in my lap and flew out the door when I pulled into someone’s driveway to get out of the car (I won’t mention the singing to screaming in .001 seconds that I did!)
  • Singing along to sateliete radio – on which I managed to listen to a Dave Matthews Band every 5-10 songs
  • Driving is awesome!

We drove most of the way across the state of Montana to Miles City today. The drive was long and beautiful. We’re sitting in the hotel room now drinking Corona and watching Metalocalypse.

We had breakfast at Cracker Barrel, then drove through the “B” towns (Butte, Bozeman, Big Timber, Billings). We had lunch/dinner in Billings at Old Chicago; it was okay. Then we drove on to Miles City.

Not much to report other than lots of driving, lots of listening to CDs and Satellite Radio and lots of talking. It’s great fun, but also a bit tiring. We let the cats roam around the car; Figo took over the entire carrier, while Lily hid under the passenger seat. They seemed a bit happier today (they walked around the hotel room and woke us up at 4 am!) and I think they are getting used to life on the road.

Tomorrow’s drive completes the Montana section of the road trip and moves us on to North Dakota. We’ve finished 1/3 of the mileage for the drive in 2 days, so the driving part of the days will slow down tomorrow.

We made it to Missoula.  We left Seattle around noon and drive through Idaho and part of Montana.  The scenery is gorgeous. roa

We did have a little adventure in Coer D’Aline, Idaho, when I confused east for west and north for south.  We wound up driving about 3 miles out of the way, but got a great picture of the Paul Bunyan burger sign.

The cats are scared and hiding under the sheets.  They’re not eating and not going potty.  they sould make it though.  They will get over be scared soon.

I’m having a great time!!  I’ll download pictures tomorrow.
